One of the characteristic events of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Day this October 12 is the military parade that takes place in Madrid. In it, members of the Navy and the Land and Air Armies appear before King Felipe VI along with other troops such as the Civil Guard, the National Police and Maritime Rescue. But how much public money does this military exhibition cost?

As the Ministry of Defense points out after a question to the Newtral Transparency Portal, the last parade of the armed forces cost 581,583 euros. The figure represents about 45% more than what was spent in 2018, when it rose to just over 400,000 euros.

Of the last five years, 2022 was the occasion in which the most money from public coffers was spent, about 3% more than in 2019. The only occasion in which less than 400,000 euros was spent was in 2020, when the parade It was suspended due to the Covid pandemic. Despite the absence of an event, there was an expense of nearly 60,000 euros for the reduced celebration of some event of the national holiday.

This 2023, the parade will not pass through the emblematic La Castellana street, as previous governments had modified. Go back to your origins in terms of travel.

The parade will start in the Plaza de Carlos V (at the height of the main entrance to the Botanical Garden) and will end its route in the Plaza de Colón. That is, it will pass through the straight line that includes Paseo del Prado and Paseo de Recoletos.

The change is that there will be no parade in the northern area of ??Paseo de la Castellana as usual, since the furniture elements in the area of ??the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, still under construction, make it difficult to repeat the military parade there.
