The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has withdrawn the declaration of ‘non-compliance’ with the World Anti-Doping Code from Panam Sports, the Pan-American Olympic organization, after it has resolved the deficiencies that made it worthy of that qualification.

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), which was also declared non-compliant, has appealed this decision, its consequences and the conditions that WADA imposed for its rehabilitation, so the world body will take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). .

According to a statement from WADA, Panam Sports “has provided relevant information” demonstrating that it has taken “decisive corrective actions” to comply with the Code. What the deficiencies were are not specified.

The green light for the continental organization’s anti-doping policy comes one week before the XIX Pan American Games open in Santiago, Chile, on October 20.

In the case of Russia, RUSADA has announced its disagreement with its status as non-compliant with the Code, so it will be the CAS that will decide if, as WADA says, Russian national legislation does not comply with what the regulations require. international anti-doping.

Meanwhile, WADA noted, the consequences derived from this non-compliance (not organizing competitions on Russian soil, removal of the Russian flag from competitions) are suspended, although the same sanctions are already applied as a consequence of the invasion of Ukraine.

There are currently four signatory bodies of the World Anti-Doping Code that do not comply with it, in the opinion of WADA: the anti-doping agencies of North Korea, Russia and Gabon and the International Federation of Fitness and Bodybuilding.
