A Barcelona judge has summoned the former director of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), Paz Esteban, to be declared under investigation for espionage on the president of the Generalitat Pere Aragonès using the Pegasus software. In an order advanced by eldiario.es and confirmed by La Vanguardia, the magistrate accepts processing the complaint that the president presented in February 2022. Esteban is summoned to appear on December 13, exactly the day on which the president will declare as injured .

The judge also endorses all the proceedings requested by Aragonès’ lawyer, Andreu Van den Eynde. On the one hand, he demands information from the company that owns or is linked to Pegasus and also requests from the CNI, after declassification, information about its purchases and activities with the aim of clarifying whether it was Spanish intelligence that ordered the espionage of Aragonés.

Esteban, the first woman to occupy the direction of the intelligence center (2019), was dismissed in May of last year as a result of the open political crisis between the PSOE and ERC due to the Pegasus case.
