Sumar has included in the negotiation with the PSOE to reissue a coalition government that one of the first measures of the new Executive is the recognition of the Palestinian State unilaterally and unconditionally, without waiting for a common position in the European Union.

This was announced by Sumar’s spokesperson, Ernest Urtasun, at a press conference in Madrid this Monday in which he presented, together with the parliamentary spokesperson, Marta Lois, three initiatives referring to the conflict between Israel and Hamas: a proposal for an institutional declaration of Congress, a non-law proposal and a political document of its formation.

“We believe that the time has come for Spain to recognize the Palestinian State unilaterally, unconditionally and urgently, as an essential contribution to the resolution of the conflict and to peace,” said Urtasun, highlighting this point of the political document. presented by Sumar.

He recalled that Sweden and Greece have already approved the recognition of the Palestinian State, so Spain could do so without waiting for the Twenty-Seven to agree on a position on the matter. In this sense, Urtasun has indicated that he believes that the acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is inclined to recognition, but within the Twenty-Seven, so what Sumar urges is unilateral recognition without waiting for the joint decision.

Urtasun and Lois have also recalled that since 2014 Congress has already expressed itself in favor of recognizing Palestine as a State and that what is missing is for the Government to make it effective.

“We want it to be one of the first measures taken by the next coalition government,” said Urtasun after indicating that his position was already included in the first contacts to reissue the government coalition.
