Judge Tanya Chutkan on Monday prohibited former President of the United States, Donald Trump, from publicly insulting the prosecutor and judicial staff in the case in which he is accused of allegedly trying to reverse the 2020 elections and instigating the assault on the Capitol.

In this way, the Columbia magistrate has admitted the limited gag order that special prosecutor Jack Smith had requested to prevent Trump’s statements from obstructing the judicial process.

John Lauro, Trump’s lawyer, has described the order as “censorship” and has expressed the opinion that it is impossible to apply it, since his client is campaigning in the Republican primaries for the 2024 elections.

In response to these statements, Tanya Chutkan decreed that it is false that said imposed restriction represents a violation of Trump’s freedom, enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution.

On the other hand, deputy prosecutor Molly Gaston stated that Trump’s defense believes the former president “is above the law and that he can say whatever he wants about the case”, which in his opinion “the court has the obligation to stop it.”

On the other hand, Tanya Chutkan has refused to restrict comments that disparage Joe Biden’s Administration or the Department of Justice, whom Trump accuses of carrying out a “witch hunt” against him.

Trump is accused in the District of Columbia of having tried to reverse the result of the 2020 elections that he lost against Joe Biden and of having instigated the assault on the Capitol by thousands of people to stop the ratification of the Democrat’s victory on the 6th. January 2021.

In addition, the former president of the United States between 2017 and 2021 is also accused in New York for irregular payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels, in Florida for having taken classified documents from the White House without permission, and in Georgia for having tried to alter the electoral results in that state.
