Posts by influencers advertising products or services that are misleading will be investigated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, as announced by the team led by Alberto Garzón, which aims to enforce EU legislation on unfair commercial practices.

Jointly between the European Commission and the national authorities of the Consumer Protection Cooperation network, there will be a massive campaign to review publications by influencers and content creators and check whether they comply with European legal obligations.

As explained by Consumo, the objective of the campaign is for online commerce to be just as safe and offer the same guarantees to consumers as offline, making truthful advertising on social networks a priority for the European authorities.

For their part, influencers will be able to learn how to act through animated videos and resources developed by academic experts in which they will learn when, where and how they should disseminate their advertising messages on social networks and what rights consumers have when they buy products or services.

Competent authorities from some autonomous communities will also participate in this action, as reported this Tuesday by the department headed by Alberto Garzón.

The campaign in coordination with Brussels announced by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs reinforces the protection of consumers against the advertising they receive on social networks and, especially, that of the most vulnerable population, such as minors.
