UEFA has announced the postponement of the match between Villarreal and Maccabi Haifa in the group stage of the Europa League that had to be played on October 26. The match will be played on December 6.
Due to the situation of the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the UEFA Executive Committee has agreed “after a thorough evaluation of the current security situation” that no European football match will be played in the territory until further notice.
As reported by UEFA in a statement, it has asked the Israel Football Association and its clubs Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv to look for alternative stadiums outside of Israel to be able to play their home matches while this decision is in force.
In addition to the match between Villarreal and Maccabi Haifa, UEFA has also postponed the Maccabi Tel Aviv-Zorya Luhansk, of the Conference League, to Saturday, November 25. And as for the Youth League, the youth Champions League, Maccabi Haifa has announced that it is withdrawing from the competition, thereby qualifying Sparta Prague directly for the second round.
On the other hand, the qualifying match for Euro 2024 between Belgium and Sweden, which was postponed due to the attack in Brussels, has been suspended. Last Monday, both teams asked not to resume the match after the tragic murder of two Swedish fans in the terrorist attack. UEFA made the decision to suspend the match, so the final score of 1-1 remains the final official result.
