King Harald of Norway, 86, has been diagnosed with Covid-19 for the second time and will be on medical leave until he stops suffering from the symptoms of the disease. In these days of convalescence, the Norwegian monarch will be replaced by his son and heir, Prince Haakon.

According to the information provided by the royal house, Harald is suffering from a slight cold that will keep him away from his duties until the coronavirus symptoms subside. This is not the first time that the Norwegian monarch has been infected with coronavirus. In March 2022 he already tested positive for this condition also with mild symptoms.

The health of Sonia from Norway’s husband has been frequently affected in recent years. Last June he suffered a serious fall when he tripped over a step in the port of Copenhagen and in May he was admitted to be treated for an infection. For this reason, on the day of Charles III’s coronation, the octogenarian monarch did not attend the ceremony, and the heir attended in his place.

“So far, I think we have managed the work quite well together. I look at it as if we were a team. We distribute the work to achieve the best possible result. I think we will continue to do so in the years to come,” Prince Haakon said of the his father’s constant medical absences.

The Norwegian king underwent surgery for the last time in 2021 on a ligament in his knee, and a year earlier he had replaced the heart valve implanted in 2005, two years after having a tumor removed from his bladder.
