The Tesla Cybertruck has been a long time coming. Almost four years after the first reservations, the company led by Elon Musk has set a date for the first deliveries of its long-awaited electric pickup model: it will be next November 30, although it will be in dribs and drabs.

“It will take an immense effort to achieve high production volumes and have a positive cash flow with a price that people can pay,” explained the magnate, who estimated that until 2025 Tesla will not be able to produce 250,000 annual units of this vehicle. .

The company recognizes that the business has not gone as they expected. And Musk has also been clear about this: “We dug our own grave with the Tesla Cybertruck.”

The tycoon not only says this because of the delay in delivery, but also because of the problems they are having with its manufacturing, due to all the technology it uses and its particular design. In a leaked email published by CNBC, the company acknowledged that the Cybertruck’s design with “shiny metal with mostly straight edges” makes “any dimensional variations” appear “like a sore thumb.”

“All parts of this vehicle, whether internal or from suppliers, must be designed and manufactured with a precision of less than 10 microns,” he detailed in his letter.

The profitability of the Tesla Cybertruck is also in question. “Financially, it will take between a year and 18 months for it to contribute significantly to positive cash flow. I would like it to be different but it is my best estimate,” Musk explained in a call with analysts and media collected by Efe.

The Cybertruck was presented in 2019 with the novelty of having “an almost impenetrable exoskeleton”, ready to “prevent dents, damage and corrosion in the long term.” None of the units that were reserved at the time have been delivered. Four years later, Tesla does not lose hope in this exclusive model, which continues to be promoted on its website.
