The Italian chef Tommaso Cristiano, from the Taverna ‘Il Caminno dei Briganti’, in the Valencian town of Albal, has been proclaimed champion, in the Neapolitan pizza category, in the seventh Spanish Passion Pizza Championship held in Granada.
It is an Italian tavern run by Alessandra Mangiafico and Giampaolo Gori that in 2022 was already recognized as one of the best pizzerias in the world, in the ‘Olimpiadi Vera Pizza Napoletana’, in which they obtained sixth place out of 336 pizza makers from 45 countries from the five continents, after competing with a Margherita pizza, made by its pizzaiolo master, Tommaso Cristiano, recalls the Albal City Council in a statement.
But this is not the only award they have in their showcases, for example, their famous pizza ‘Essenza’, has already managed to be crowned the best professional pizza in the Valencian Community in the contest organized by the Universita Della Pizza Italiana Nel Mundo. It was also awarded the ‘Emozione’, composed of mozzarella, broccoli cream, Cantabrian anchovies, cherry tomato, sliced ??almonds, crunchy parmesan and black olive powder.
On this occasion, it was the authentic Napoletana Pizza that Tommaso prepares in his oven at the Albalenca pizzeria, which has convinced the demanding palates of the judges to grant him this recognition.
The Neapolitan pizza is one of the best-known dishes of Italian gastronomy and according to Giampaolo Gori, its ingredients are peeled Nocerino d.o.p tomato, flower of milk mozzarella, 36-month parmigiano, basil and extra virgin oil.
The manager of the ‘Taverna’ is enthusiastic after receiving this new recognition: “We are very happy with this national trophy. It has been a job of months during which Tommaso Cristiano has worked hard to improve his mass. For us it is a very important that it pays us for the sacrifice made and that we continue to make in view of the World Cup in Parma in April. A very important and proud date for any pizza maker and even more so for us who are going to represent the country that has welcomed us, Spain.”
The establishment is located at number 4 Alcàsser Street “and there are more and more Italian food lovers who do not mind traveling a few kilometers to indulge in a more than memorable gastronomic experience,” concludes the council. .
