As November 27 approaches, the deadline for the inauguration of President of the Government, ERC is putting more conditions on the table for Pedro Sánchez. This morning, during the control session with the president of the Generalitat, the leader of the Republicans in the Parliament, Josep Maria Jové, demanded that the general secretary of the PSOE declassify documentation related to the espionage with Pegasus of around sixty people related to the independence “if he wants to be invested.”

Jové has a basis for the demand. The president of the Generalitat filed a complaint in July 2022 that has been admitted for processing by the judge this October against the former director of the National Intelligence Center (CNI) Paz Esteban. This legal step requires for the republican that it be accompanied by political decisions “of whoever wants to be invested… if he wants to be invested again”, and he recalled, as Pere Aragonès has also done, that the Moncloa promised to declassify documentation about that espionage if there was a judicial request. This arrived: the head of the 29th investigative court of Barcelona, ??the same one that is now investigating Esteban, simultaneously demanded on October 16 that documents be declassified.

“I do not expect anything other than that the Council of Ministers collaborates with justice and with this judicial procedure. Nothing else would be understood,” Aragonès added during his speech in the Catalan Chamber, while lamenting the “unjustifiable slowness” for the admission of his complaint.

This new element introduced by ERC complicates the investiture of the localist leader a little more. Those of Oriol Junqueras insist again and again that they handle three folders: progress in the right to self-determination, improving the well-being of Catalan citizens (with Rodalies and ending the fiscal deficit of 22,000 million euros) and the amnesty. But “the amnesty does not resolve all the repression that the independentists have suffered,” said Jové and it was at this point that he recalled the massive espionage with Pegasus that was uncovered last year. “Political espionage is also repression, unjustifiable and reprehensible,” he added.

Also with the amnesty there have been clarifications. Jové has stated that a hypothetical amnesty law must repair the pain caused” and must, in addition, “recognize that no criminal action was taken and that any negotiation process must be carried out under equal conditions.” something that the president has corroborated.

“We must delve deeper into the process of negotiating the political conflict, recognizing our right to be able to decide our future and set the conditions to exercise this right to self-determination,” Jové stated.
