On June 9, more than 38 million citizens in Spain are called to the polls to renew the European Parliament. However, those who prefer not to go in person to the polling stations on election day may request to vote by mail. Below we explain how to vote by mail and when to request it:

You can request a vote by mail in two ways. Firstly, it can be done in person at a Correos branch by presenting your ID, passport or driving license.

On the other hand, you can also manage online through the Correos website, registering with your electronic DNI.

Once the application is submitted, the Electoral Census Office will process the petition and send the applicant all the documentation required to vote by mail.

Until May 30, any citizen in Spain can request to vote by mail both in person at a Correos branch and online.

Once the vote by mail has been requested, starting on May 20, each voter will receive, by certified mail, a package with the ballots and electoral envelopes. In order to obtain the package, it is necessary for the recipient to personally receive and sign for receipt of it.

If you do not receive the ballots and have requested to vote by mail, the applicant must go to a Post Office branch in person to claim the package.

Once the citizen has received the package with the ballots and has filled the envelope with one of them, they can deposit their vote along with the certificate at any Post Office.

The last day to send your vote by post in the next European elections is June 6.
