The consumer organization Facua-Consumidores en Acción has detected differences of up to 251.6% in the rates of the mandatory Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV) for passenger cars with gasoline engines and 347.8% in diesel vehicles , depending on the autonomous community in which it is carried out.

The Community of Madrid, which is a region where the service is liberalized and rates are set without regional regulation, has been the territory with the highest ITV price for gasoline passenger cars, with 51.44 euros on average, compared to 65.51 for diesel ones.

The average MOT price registered in the seventeen Spanish autonomous communities to date has been 35.23 euros for gasoline cars, a figure 2.7% below that of 2022, and 42.76 euros for those equipped with a diesel engine, which is 2.2% lower than the previous year.

Specifically, these decreases have been mainly motivated by the reductions in the Valencian Community and Extremadura, so that ITV rates in the Valencian territory have been reduced after the recovery of the service by the Public Administration – after years of privatization – and the elimination of the noise test, while the Government of Extremadura has decided to reduce prices by up to 50% during 2023.

The analysis by Facua-Consumidores en Acción has also included the ITV rates for passenger cars, both diesel and gasoline with catalytic converters, taking into account that non-catalyzed cars “have less and less presence in Spain’s vehicle fleet”, as well as of motorcycles.

Thus, the average rate to pass the MOT of a motorcycle in the seventeen Spanish autonomous communities has been 21.50 euros, a figure 2.2% above that registered in 2022.

Along these lines, the prices collected by the association have included 21% VAT – or 7% of the Canarian IGIC, 9% of the IPSI of Ceuta and 4% of Melilla -, but not the rate of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), established at 4.18 euros for all inspections.

For its part, Facua-Consumidores en Acción has detailed that in most regions there is a public concession regime for the operation of ITV stations, except in Madrid, where they are private, and some others where they are operated. directly the autonomous Administration through public companies, as is the case of Andalusia (Veiasa) or Asturias (Itvasa).

The Community of Madrid, with 51.44 euros on average, has been the territory with the highest MOT price for gasoline passenger cars, and was followed by Euskadi, with 50.91 euros, and Ceuta, 50.14 euros.

The cheapest rates, for their part, have corresponded to the Extremadura stations in 2023, specifically, with 14.63 euros for the Administration stations and 18.58 for the private ones, followed by Mallorca, with 17.01 euros. , Andalusia, with 26.19 euros for vehicles of less than 1,600 cubic centimeters and 35.40 euros for the rest, and Murcia, with 22.30 euros at the only station operated directly by the regional government, in the town of Alcantarilla. .

Regarding diesel vehicles, the Community of Madrid has been the most expensive, with 65.51 euros, followed by Ceuta (59.48 euros) and Cantabria (53.24 euros).

However, lower rates for diesel have been registered at the stations in Extremadura (14.63 euros for the Administration and 18.58 for the private ones), those in Andalusia for passenger cars of less than 1,600 cubic centimeters (30. 79 euros), the public station in Murcia (30.90 euros) and those in Mallorca (30.92 euros).
