The Government has announced today the commitment to invest 11,000 million in the Mediterranean corridor in the coming years, until 2030, to give a significant boost to the large infrastructure that runs through Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Murcia and Andalusia. At this time, according to figures provided by the Government commissioner for the Mediterranean corridor, Josep Vicent Boira, 5,695 million have already been tendered for railway infrastructure, of which 4,190 million have been awarded and 2,693 million have been executed.

During the inauguration of the 360º Corridor: Atlantic and Mediterranean conference, an event organized within the framework of the European Presidency of the Council of the EU at the Global Mobility Call congress, Boira added that in 2023 a demand for travelers of 2 is expected. .3 million between Barcelona and Valencia and that freight traffic will reach 13.7% of the total that year.

Every week, Lucas specified, more than 20 million are spent in the corridor. For large companies, such as Mercadona or Ford, it is also a key infrastructure, as was evident during the day. This investment rate will allow more than 800 kilometers of track, several logistics terminals and port accesses to be put into service in the coming years.

“We are working decisively to achieve corridors, transport routes that help strengthen European integration, promote trade and tourism, and that contribute to regional cohesion, benefiting the entire European Union,” he stated. Luke.

The main actions of the Mediterranean corridor underway are several. In Catalonia, the works on the Barcelona-Tarragona section will allow the arrival of mixed gauge to factories and large industrial and port areas. The same will happen in the logistics centers of the Valencian Community, in Murcia and in Andalusia.
