The Cinema Museum of Girona was created thanks to the collection of Tomàs Mallol. Right now in its temporary exhibition room we can enjoy the exhibition Tomàs Mallol and amateur cinema (1923-2023), which can be seen until April 28, 2024.

It is an exhibition that wants to celebrate the centenary of his figure and also of amateur cinema. At the same time that he collected objects related to the world that he was passionate about, the seventh art, Tomàs Mallol made short films. Some of them are projected on the screen in the room, as well as other contemporary Catalan filmmakers.

Everything together is a review of the history of these hundred years in terms of technological evolution in the world of filming.

Mallol made 31 short films, many of which achieved public recognition in the form of various distinctions and awards.

This exhibition not only wants to be a tribute to Tomàs Mallol, but also to the Catalan amateur filmmakers of his generation, who starred in the golden age of this type of cinema made with the most absolute independence and freedom of creation.

We can see the first amateur cinema devices, which a hundred years ago revolutionized the practice of “filmmaking” bringing it closer to fans and the general public, as detailed in the presentation of the exhibition.
