The parents of Colombian soccer player Luis Díaz, forward for the English club Liverpool and the national team, were kidnapped by unknown persons this Saturday in the Caribbean department of La Guajira, where the scorer is from, authorities reported.

The kidnapping of her parents, Luis Manuel Díaz and Cilenis Marulanda, occurred when they were traveling in a van that was intercepted by individuals traveling on motorcycles in the town of Barrancas, according to initial information, which also indicates that the mother was released. thanks to police pressure.

“In operation padlock in Barrancas, Luis Díaz’s mother has been rescued, we are still searching for the father,” the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, announced on his X account.

For his part, the director of the Police, General William René Salamanca, said after speaking by phone with the soccer player’s mother: “We now have the mother safe and sound (…) her integrity and health are without any problem.” .

Previously, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that “from the moment it learned of the kidnapping of the parents of the Colombian player Luis Díaz, in the Barrancas sector, in La Guajira, a specialized team” made up of various investigative organizations “is in urgent action. in order to find the location of these people, clarify the facts and find those responsible.”

According to General Salamanca, “an offensive was launched, as the Police do when complexities like this arise.” “The Traffic Police, the Tax and Customs Police, the Surveillance Police, are committed from now on, right now, to carry out checkpoints, identification of people on motorcycles, in private public service vehicles,” the officer ordered all units under his command.

General Salamanca will travel to La Guajira to take charge of this new kidnapping that has shocked the country. The Military Forces Command also ordered that the Military Gaula, its anti-extortion and kidnapping unit, support “the search operation for the parents of soccer player Luis Díaz.”

The kidnapping occurs just on the eve of the local and regional elections that will be held tomorrow in the country, for which thousands of soldiers and police have been mobilized to the towns and roads in order to guarantee the normal development of the elections.
