Family Associations of the five Municipal Daycare Centers of Badalona, ??which host almost 500 children, once again recall that last summer they suffered temperatures above 30º on several occasions “with obvious risk to the health of the children and the educators.” . For its part, the municipal government announces that it will provide mobile refrigerators while preparing in-depth action.
In statements to La Vanguardia, the first deputy mayor, Juan Fernández, affirms that “as an immediate measure” the acquisition of “penguin” type air conditioning devices is proceeding for the five municipal daycare centers “that are about to be put out to tender” with which that the problem would be resolved during the summer.
The families regret that, despite the protests and demonstrations, the mayor, Xavier Garcia Albiol, announced “provisional air conditioning measures” against the commitment they previously made for “definitive comprehensive air conditioning.” They consider that if the city council has mobile devices (penguins) it will lower the initial approach.
Regarding promoting more in-depth action in daycare centers to alleviate the heat, the City Council is studying formulas to install fixed air conditioning in all facilities and place awnings and more trees in the patios to generate shaded areas.
Families are outraged by the lack of information about the installation calendar and not knowing the details of the interventions. They affirm that “we will not accept half-baked or patchy performances.” They therefore demand “a technically comfortable space” that does not endanger the health of children and educators.
