Father Ángel has had to be admitted to a hospital in Madrid due to a stomach ailment. The priest, founder of Messengers of Peace, is currently under observation, according to El Español.

This health downturn would have prevented the well-known priest, aged 86, from officiating the funeral mass for Fernando Fernández Tapias, as planned. A ceremony that was held last Monday, November 13 in the church of the Jesuitas church.

The priest was going to appear at the home of the Tapias family, with whom he has always been a great friend, as well as his widow, Nuria González. He was precisely in charge of officiating the response in memory of Fernando Fernández Tapias days after his death, at the La Paz Mortuary, in Madrid.

According to Messengers of Peace, the religious is out of danger and is progressing favorably. He is expected to be discharged in the next few hours and can recover to return to his routines.

His relatives trust in a speedy recovery for the religious, who takes advantage of the Christmas season to draw attention to his charitable causes. The Asturian priest, the image of his foundation, has built more than three hundred homes that shelter thousands of children and the elderly in more than 55 countries.

He received the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord in 1995, that of the Foundation for Peace, that of Español Universal in 2005 and one of his most beloved, that of Asturiano Universal that same year. Father Ángel has not stopped calling attention to his charitable causes, receiving the support of dozens of public figures.

“We form a big family, of many races, colors and religions, and we all get along well. In all of us, affection for others reigns. We have child care programs, help for young people and adolescents, the disabled, girls pregnant women, AIDS patients, protection programs for women, the elderly… We don’t stop working.”
