Love of Lesbian announces an indefinite hiatus. The singer and composer Santi Balmes has confirmed in an interview with RAC1 that next year, after the new album comes out, the band will take some time to look for other creative paths.

“It is very difficult to say goodbye definitively but there comes a time when we think we have reached the limit,” admits Balmes. The group will continue doing concerts and will not disappear completely, although it has not been specified how long they will be in this situation or the projects that each one will carry out.

Balmes has said on the radio that one of his dreams is to compose in Catalan. A challenge that he has pending and that he does not rule out doing, although for now he is focused on the promotion of his new book, That piece that does not fit (Principal Libros), in which he talks with the journalist, writer and musician David Escamilla about his talent and his career.

More than twenty-five years have passed since Love of Lesbian began its tour on stages “as a result of a band without a singer and a singer without a band”, as they themselves say on their website. In its first years, Balmes himself, guitarist Jordi Roig, bassist Joan Ramón Planell, and drummer Oriol Bonet were part of the project. Later, guitarist Julián Saldarriaga would join the band. Currently, this line-up is completed live by Dani Ferrer on the keyboard.

Their first concert took place at the Magic hall in Barcelona, ??after finishing second in a contest by the musical magazine specialized in rock Ruta 66. An opportunity that also allowed them to record in the studio and become known, although one of the jumps They would give more importance when they became the opening act for The Cure during some concerts of their Dream Tour 2000.

Its striking name comes from an anecdote from Balmes himself who, unintentionally, recorded a pornographic film about lesbianism where his own baptism was previously filmed. In the beginning, many of his songs were in English, although they would soon consider this decision “a mistake” and a “season of learning.”
