First of two finals for Carlos Alcaraz at the Nitto ATP Finals. The Murcian, conditioned by Monday’s defeat against the German Alexander Zverev, needs a victory against the Russian Andrey Rublev to maintain his chances of advancing to the semifinals that are held in Turin and that he is playing for the first time in his career.

The El Palmar tennis player will face the loser of the match between Russians from the same group as the loser of his duel, which left Rublev dejected, clearly surpassed by Medvedev in two sets (6-4 and 6-2) after just over an hour and battle medium.

Alcaraz needs a victory if he wants to continue having a chance to qualify. A defeat against the Muscovite would practically exhaust the world number 2’s options.

Despite the defeat, the Spaniard took a positive reading of his debut in the ATP Finals, the tournament that brings together the eight best rackets on the circuit at the Pala Alpitour in Turin. “It’s incredible. Honestly, the best entrance to the field I’ve ever made. It was an incredible experience to play my first match in the Masters, even if I lost,” he said at a press conference.

The challenge with Rublev is not minor. “I will have to be very, very focused in each match if I want to have a chance,” warned the tennis player.

The Murcian is not in his best shape and has accumulated three defeats in a row, which is his worst streak of results on the ATP circuit, because until now he had not suffered three setbacks in a row at the highest level.

The match between Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev at the Nitto ATP Finals will be played this Wednesday, November 15, starting at 2:30 p.m. The meeting can be seen on television on Movistar and can also be followed live through the La Vanguardia website.
