The president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, assured this morning in Madrid that the business class “needs politicians to give us peace of mind and, above all, not to put obstacles in our way.” The businessman was thus referring to the investiture of Pedro Sánchez that is being held in the capital, where the Quiero Corredor movement led by the Valencian Association of Businessmen has come to demand the Mediterranean corridor.
In his statement to the media, Roig explained that both workers and businessmen must give “peace of mind to the country and the Spaniards” and that politically the (candidate) who is most democratically created comes out, but within a framework of stability.”
Roig continued to explain that with the current scenario, his business decisions would be compromised: “If we had this problem in Portugal, we would slow down investments,” he acknowledged. In his assessment of the current political climate, Roig has pointed out that businessmen observe a “confrontation between Spaniards” and has pointed out that “a division is half being achieved among Spaniards that is not good at all for the economy, nor for Spain nor for the Spanish,” he added.
Roig, who leads the business protest for the corridor, has declared that “we are once again trying to explain to civil society that we manage to create a Mediterranean corridor, 50% of the country’s wealth is there.” And in a joking tone, he couldn’t help but point out that in the end “they are going to give us the Guinness record for coming to the Mediterranean corridor so many times.”
