Barcelona City Council will reinforce cleaning and surveillance services around the Escola de la Concepció, in Dreta de l’Eixample. This happens after a student at the center pricked his finger with a syringe that was in a planter at the doors of the building.

As detailed by sources from the City Council to Betevé, the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB) has scheduled several visits to supervise the school environments. These inspections will begin this Friday and will be carried out by agents of the drug addiction network.

For its part, the City Council has regretted the incident and has stated that a detailed follow-up of the evolution of the case is being carried out. That is why there will be reinforcement in the different municipal services, as well as: cleaning, Urban Guard and public health in the Schools passage and in the Pla passage. However, the administrative body has assured that this is an exceptional event in the area.

In turn, municipal sources have stated that both the ASPB Department of Drug Addiction Prevention and Care and the educators have already contacted the school to work together. Its purpose is to ensure that there are no more signs of drug use in this public space, in addition to remedying the problem, making it easier for those affected to use the harm reduction resources that exist in the city.

At the same time, from the Eixample district and in collaboration with the Mercado de la Concepció and the Escola de la Concepció, work is being done to improve the street furniture of this space. Likewise, the district undertakes to replace the removed chairs and bins, due to their poor condition, and to replace the pylons.

Finally, the pavement will also be fixed and the sidewalk on the Bruc-Aragó corner will be widened. At the moment, these actions are expected to begin next month and be completed before the end of the year.
