From Pedralbes to Poble Espanyol and from Barcelona to Madrid, the Alma festival has announced the celebration of an edition in Madrid of the musical cycle that began in the summer in the Ciutat Comtal by Concert Studio, responsible for the organization of the Jardins de Pedralbes festival from its creation in 2013 until last year.
The geographical expansion of the contest consolidates a proposal that in the summer gathered more than 48,000 people on 13 dates in July with the presence of artists such as Fito Páez, Chris Isaak, Soft Cell or M-Clan. Looking ahead to next year, the festival “will maintain in both cities the identity of a boutique festival with an eclectic program of a high level”, declared Martín Pérez, director of the Barcelona musical event and of Concert Studio.
On November 28, the first artists who will participate in the Madrid edition, organized in collaboration with the company La Carbonería, responsible for events such as the Backstage Fest, will be announced. The geographical expansion “supposes a natural growth for the festival, which could also be carried out in other cities in the future”, explains Martín Pérez. “The arrival in Madrid is only the first chapter of everything to come”.
Among the concerts to be held next year at Poble Espanyol, Take That, Vetusta Morla, Valeria Castro, Glen Hansard and James Blunt have already been confirmed. As a novelty, the organization has announced the expansion of the village area and the change of access to the festival, which will take place through the upper part of Poble Espanyol, on Passeig Jean Forestier, instead of through the gates of Ávila, as happened in the previous edition.
The Alma Jardins Pedralbes festival was born surrounded by controversy due to the public tendering of the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival, managed since 2013 by Concert Studio. After losing the competition to the promoter Clipper’s, responsible, among others, for the Cap Roig festival, Concert Studio announced the creation of a new festival located in Poble Espanyol with the intention of maintaining the spirit of the ‘event with the only change of location. Hence the name Ànima, in reference to “the way of doing things for those of us who made the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival”, as explained by Martín Pérez when he announced the new festival.
