Telefónica has reacted to the demand launched by the unions this Tuesday to begin negotiating the new collective agreement of related companies, that is, it affects the areas of mobile phones, solutions and Spain. The company assures that it will convene worker representatives in the coming days, after receiving the demand for “urgent opening of negotiations,” as explained by the unions in a communication issued this Tuesday.
UGT and CC.OO. They consider that “a reasonable amount of time having passed” since the celebration of Investor Day, which the company celebrated on November 8, “the company must clarify what impact the strategic plan presented” that day to the analysts could have on workers. .
In the opinion of the majority centers, the “messages” that the company has launched in recent weeks, such as those of its purpose of “obtaining efficiencies that help reduce the cost structure” or “adjusting the size of the organization”, “They add to the existing uncertainty due to the regulation of the sector, the entry of new shareholders or the mergers of existing companies and their possible impact on the market.”
“As majority representatives, we are obliged to support our rights in labor matters, thus addressing existing concerns. For this reason, we have demanded the urgent opening of the negotiating table to begin the negotiation of the III collective agreement of linked companies immediately, considering that said forum is the ideal to exercise the social dialogue that both parties have deployed for decades,” indicates the statement from the plants.
In the conference with analysts on November 8 on the occasion of the publication of the company’s latest results, the CEO, Ángel Vilá, referred to the new voluntary departure plan (PSI) announced by the company.
Vilá defended this new labor adjustment in order to adapt the organization to the new needs of the market and the incorporation of young talent.
He assured that they have not included a provision of money in the strategic plan because they were preparing the negotiations that they want to start with the unions, and he stressed the management’s confidence in reaching the agreement with the workers’ representatives that was reached again with this PSI. in previous plans, based on a “constructive” dialogue.
UGT, the majority union at Telefónica, has defended that the new collective agreement for related companies has the same duration as the new strategic plan, prepared for the period 2024-2026.
Telefónica has calculated that with the new PSI, up to a maximum of about 5,000 employees could leave the company in Spain, although it is expected that the final figure could range between 2,500 and 3,000. The unions’ objective is for the new plan to be framed under conditions similar to the three previous PSIs.
