I took this photograph for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia on the path that leads to the Grevolosa forest from the Coll de Bracons, in the region of Osona. Spectacular colors of the leaves that barely let the light of a sunny morning through.
The Grevolosa forest is located in a valley of the Sierra dels Llancers, in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, between the Curull, Sant Miquel and Cabrera mountain ranges and south of the Puigsacalm peak (1,515 meters), in the Collsacabra massif.
The forest, of a few hectares and at an average altitude of 1,000 meters, has a large number of century-old beech trees that reach forty meters in height thanks to the microclimate and the isolation of the closed valley.
It is a secluded place, which can only be accessed on foot from the north through the Bracons hill, coming from Sant Andreu de la Vola or Joanetes, or from the south, from the hermitage of San Nazario (documented since 1382 , baroque style), which is accessed by a path from Sant Andreu de la Vola.
It is worth highlighting the Grevolosa beech, which is located in the center of the forest, next to the stream. It is recognized as a monumental tree by the Generalitat of Catalonia. And it has a perimeter at the base of 5.81 meters. Its height is calculated at 42 meters and the diameter of the crown is 18.50 meters. It could be between 250 to 300 years old.
This forest is so unique that, due to the size of the trees and its location in a narrow valley, it is used as an auditorium. In fact, in autumn, it is customary to hold a cobla concert by the Principal de la Bisbal orchestra.
