There is already a poster for the 2024 Primavera Sound, an edition that will not have second parties from Madrid, and which will star 150 artists who will reflect their music from May 29 to June 2 at Parc del Fòrum. The 22nd edition of the Barcelona festival includes names such as Lana del Rey, SZA, Pulp, PJ Harvey, The National or Deftones, while the French Phoenix will headline the free day on May 29.
The organization wanted to remember the 30 years that have passed since the embryo of the festival was held in the KGB hall, Barcelona’s starting point for a brand that has spread throughout the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, despite which will not repeat in Madrid this year. Three decades during which progress has been made in the presence of women on the stages, reaching parity in 2019, betting that it will remain in the next edition with 42.36% women, an equal percentage of men and 15 .28% of mixed projects.

The return of Pulp will be another must-stop at the festival, which will also feature The National, the bare metal of classics such as Deftones or Vampire Weekend for the enjoyment of guitar lovers. Very varied proposals such as heavy metal courtesy of Wiegedood, which contrasts with the pop of The lemon twigs, the hip-hop of Billy Woods or the dance music of the Korean Peggy Gou. Jarvis Cocker’s band won’t be the only ones to repeat on the spring bill. The Texans Shellac will return their math rock to a festival that will once again feature Yo la Tengo, Arab Strap, the singer-songwriter Ferran Palau, Mujeres, authentic Sonido Muchacho, or the Argentines Él Mató A Un Policía Motorizado, a benchmark of Hispanic rock. Along with these names, some of them veterans, new artists such as Omar Apollo, Ethel Cain, Milo J, Mushkaa from Barcelona, ??Dillom, MJ Nebreda, the dark postpunk of Depresión Sonora, the singer-songwriter Julie Byrne or the indie pop of Water From Your Eyes.

Primavera Sound closed last year with an attendance of 193,000 spectators, which rises to 253,000 with the concerts held in rooms within Primavera a la Ciutat. The figure, significantly lower than that of past editions, was well received by the organization, which claimed to have “found a format” and “a future model” after resizing the space with a new distribution of the stages. Less satisfaction left the Madrid edition, the first and only one of the festival in the capital of Spain, for now. The problems of locating a suitable space for the festival together with the low attendance (due to adverse weather) truncated the intention to consolidate a festival that, both musically and in terms of infrastructure, was reflected in Barcelona.
