The Prosecutor’s Office requests up to 27 years in prison for eight members of the CDR accused of terrorism for allegedly planning violent actions to achieve the independence of Catalonia and 8 years for four other defendants. All of them were arrested in September 2019 in the so-called Operation Judas.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court considers that the accused joined a Tactical Response Team (ERT), a group of people from different Committees in Defense of the Republic (CDR), “which would have formed a parallel terrorist organization, of a clandestine nature. and stable, whose objective would be to carry out violent actions or attacks with explosives and incendiary substances”.

According to the order concluding the investigation issued by Judge García Castellón, this cell was understood as a group of the highest trust in charge of the most sensitive actions. García Castellón describes them as convinced of independence and radical activism as a way to achieve their goal. These means included, according to the judge, the use of violence with the aim of forcing State institutions to grant the separation of Catalonia through deeds.

Due to these facts, the prosecutor asks to impose a prison sentence of eight years and absolute disqualification on eight defendants for the crime of belonging to a terrorist organization; for the crime of possession, storage, as well as manufacture of explosive and flammable substances or devices or their components, of a terrorist nature, prison of 11 years; and for the crime of havoc, of an attempted terrorist nature, the sentence of eight years in prison.

For the other four defendants, he only requests a prison sentence of eight years and absolute disqualification for the crime of belonging to a terrorist organization.

In addition, all accused are requested to pay the legal accessories and also penalties of absolute disqualification, special disqualification for educational profession or trade, in the areas of teaching, sports and free time, for a period of time greater than ten years than the duration. of the prison sentence imposed.
