On November 25, family and friends of Mallorcan chef David Peregrina Capó, 53, and his wife, Érica da Silva Santos, 38; They met to say their last goodbye to the couple, who the day before was found dead in the restaurant they ran in the tourist town of Porto Seguro, on the banks of the Buranhém River, in the Ilha do Pau do Macaco region.

The wake for their lifeless bodies was held last Saturday in the hall of the Itagimirin Town Hall, the town where the Mallorcan chef’s wife was originally from and where both were buried.

The couple was found at the entrance to their restaurant, Os Ribeirinhos, both bodies with gunshot marks. According to the first police investigations, the crime could have been perpetrated in the early hours of the morning of Friday the 24th.

As reported by the Police Technical Directorate (DPT) of Eunápolis, Peregrina’s wife was found outside the restaurant, naked, after allegedly trying to escape by jumping from a balcony located on the first floor. Apparently, the woman was taking a shower when she heard the first shots, and she was attacked when she tried to escape from it.

The Mallorcan chef, for his part, was found dead in the kitchen of the establishment they both ran, on the ground floor, with bullet holes in his arm, chest and back.

According to the first testimonies of witnesses, at the time of the event gunshots and cries for help were heard. At the moment, it has not been possible to certify whether there is any type of additional crime, since the local Police have not been able to confirm if any of the victims’ belongings were stolen.

Peregrina had been in Brazil for several years, since she decided to move to the Rio country to pursue her true passion, gastronomy, after decades working in banking in her native Mallorca. Shortly after, she achieved her dream and opened his restaurant, which he ran with his wife and had already managed to carve out a niche for itself as one of the great attractions of local tourism.

In a statement, the local trade organization of Porto Seguro (CDL) issued a statement in which it regretted the death of the couple and sent its deepest condolences to their family and friends. The police investigation continues, waiting for new testimonies and evidence that can clarify the motivations behind this atrocious cold-blooded crime.
