The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and the municipal spokesperson for the PSOE-Madrid, Reyes Maroto, clashed this Tuesday in the ordinary session of the Plenary Session of the Madrid City Council over the protests against the amnesty on Ferraz Street. .

The confrontation has arisen due to a question asked by Maroto to the mayor, in which he was interested in knowing what measures the municipal government is going to take “in response to the negative effects of the violent acts that are taking place” in the capital derived from the concentrations in front of the PSOE headquarters.

Maroto, who began his speech by recommending that Almeida take “fruit salts”, in reference to the euphemism used by the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, to define her words against the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during the last session of investiture, has assured that the “violent acts” in Ferraz are altering “the coexistence of the neighbors” and “negatively” affecting businesses and restaurants in the area.

The spokesperson, who has also focused on the “attacks” on police and journalists, has assured that “one cannot be neutral or condescending” with these acts and has asked for a firm condemnation of “actions close to fascism”, where “racist slogans” such as “no Moors, Spain is not a zoo” and homophobic insults such as “dyke” or “faggot” have been used.

Maroto has also brought out the side signed and proclaimed by the former mayor of Madrid, Enrique Tierno Galván, on February 26, 1981, four days after the attempted coup d’état, when a massive demonstration for the Constitution was held in front of the that Galván stressed that he expected the “behavior” of the citizens to be “impeccable.”

“Mrs. Maroto, one clarification: Enrique Tierno Galván would not have voted in favor of the amnesty,” replied Almeida, who assured that the “coexistence model” of the PSOE “involves categorically condemning the minority incidents in Madrid” and, at the same time, At the same time, for “amnesty to terrorists, coup plotters and corrupt people.”

“Their model of coexistence involves allying with the heirs of ETA, with the coup plotters who set fire to the streets of Barcelona and the fact that Hamas has defined Sánchez as its best international friend,” indicated the first mayor, who, Next, he showed some photographs of socialist headquarters in the Basque Country vandalized by ETA.

Next, Almeida showed images of burning streets in Barcelona in October 2019 and asked Maroto: “Have you seen any images of Madrid like this? These are the ones who are going to be amnestied,” and at the end, he takes a new photograph of Hamas members and ironically: “Look at the happy face of this Israeli hostage.”

“Hamas is a terrorist group and must be condemned without palliatives because if not, their model of coexistence involves allying and being partners of those who killed more than 1,000 people in Madrid,” he concluded.

Finally, the mayor has ironized the new PSOE motto, ‘keep calm and carry on’: “Mrs. Maroto, ‘keep calm’ and lots of fruit.”
