The Mossos of the Tarragona police station have arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly defrauded a vulnerable person by taking his credit card and bank codes to steal money. He would also have tried to obtain several loans of up to 3,000 euros that were denied due to lack of documentation.
The arrest was made on November 23. The investigation began after the victim reported on October 12 and 13 that someone had taken cash from her account, using a stolen credit card.
The Mossos confirmed that it was a man who, after obtaining 790 euros in cash, tried to obtain another 2,400 euros and requested several loans of up to 3,000 euros.
As reported this Wednesday by the Mossos d’Esquadra, the detainee is accused of two crimes of bank fraud, another two of falsification of public documents, one of discovery and disclosure of secrets, theft and one crime of usurpation of civil status.
The police investigation began after the victim, a particularly vulnerable young man, reported that during the nights of October 12 and 13, someone had withdrawn cash from various ATMs, up to eight times, with a bank card that they had stolen from him.
The Mossos found that a person had withdrawn 750 euros in cash, after which he tried to obtain another 2,400 euros in repeated operations that the bank denied.
Likewise, the detainee also used the card to carry out two credit request operations of up to 3,000 euros, which were denied due to lack of documentation.
During the investigation, the agents suspected the attitude of an acquaintance of the victim, with whom he had coincided on the days in which the events were committed.
In fact, the victim explained to the Mossos that her wallet with her bank card had been stolen and that this acquaintance advised her not to report it to the police or inform her family.
Furthermore, he took advantage of their trust to use their mobile phone and thus access its unlock code and the stolen card code.
After these suspicions, the Mossos were able to identify the alleged perpetrator of the events in the images of the cameras of the banking entities in which he withdrew the money with the young man’s card.
