I captured this photograph for La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos in Deltebre, on the Ebro River. It seems that the Cormorants are watching the fish doing its acrobatics.
The cormorant captures fish by propelling itself with its legs and diving for more than a minute in the water, reaching a depth of 10 meters. And then he dries his wings in the sun.
The Ebro Delta is the kingdom of birds in Catalonia, as 95 species nest here, but many others winter, rest and feed during migrations.
Altogether, this area is home to 316 species of common birds and about 360 of the 600 recorded birds in Europe.
Among the most attractive of the Ebro Delta wetland are the flamingos, common in the rice fields, a very common crop in this area, as can be seen in the photographs.
The colony of 4,000 flamingo pairs can raise more than 3,000 chicks. In this area of ??Catalonia, a rarity has even been detected, the lesser flamingo (Phoenicopterus minor).
