Anna Sorli studied fashion design. She even created a shirt-making company with a friend of hers, but they closed it. After this small youth business adventure, she focused on her family business: the Sorli Group, a century-old company especially known for her supermarkets. “In 2015, we opened a shopping center, Sorli Emocions, and thanks to this I regained contact with the world of fashion,” she remembers. It was then that Anna Sorli began taking hours from her busy schedule at the Sorli Group to create her own fashion brand: Somia (for dreaming in Catalan).
The first Somia garments were made in 2016, but it was not until the winter of 2020 when the company launched its first collection on the market. They are limited collections, which seek functionality and durability.
The entrepreneur personally takes care of the designs and to make them a reality she uses materials with a lower environmental impact, such as organic cotton, recycled wool or discarded jeans fabric. On the other hand, for clothing, the entrepreneur has opted for local workshops (Mataró, Igualada and Barcelona) and collaborates with entities that employ vulnerable women (Fundació Ared) or people with functional diversity (Fundació NouXamfrà).
This commitment to sustainability and manufacturing “in local workshops, which use top quality materials and organic fabrics with low environmental impact, achieving pieces that last over time”, has earned Somia the award for best emerging fashion company. at 080 Barcelona Fashion / Rec.0.
In addition to through the brand’s online store, Somia garments can be purchased in its three physical stores in Vilassar de Dalt, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Barcelona. They are clothing items designed for women and accessories such as bags and scarves. Prices, with exceptions, range between 50 and 150 euros.
Sorli combines her success as a fashion designer with the family business. At Somia she has the help, among others, of Marina Masdeu, trained in graphic design and a master’s degree in marketing and sales, and Àngels Fañanás, trained in image consulting, purchasing assistant and master’s degree in communication, public relations and protocol.
