The Provincial Council of Granada has presented the 70th Vuelta a Andalucía-Ruta del Sol in a press conference held at the Palacio Niñas Nobles with the provincial deputy for Sports and Sports Facilities, Eric Escobedo, who has announced the route of what will be the first stage, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from Almuñécar, on the coast, to Cádiar, in the Alpujarra.

This event is an essential pillar in the international cycling calendar, stated Escobedo, who was accompanied by the mayors of Almuñécar, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, and of Cádiar, Encarnación López, the territorial delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Board in Granada, Fernando Egea, and the technical director of the test, Pau Cuevas.

The third vice president of the Provincial Council has also highlighted the value of this circuit, which stands out not only for its sporting merit, but also for its relevance in the province”, emphasizing that one euro invested in sports “has a great economic and tourist impact for all municipalities”.

For his part, the technical director of the event, Pau Cuevas, has corroborated the words of the deputy, adding that “this edition of the Vuelta a Andalucía is a tribute to cycling, to the beauty of our landscapes and to the passion of the fans who make this event an unforgettable experience.”

The Vuelta a Andalucía-Ruta del Sol will begin on February 14, in Almuñécar, beginning the 162.3 kilometers to be covered by the best runners on the international cycling scene until reaching the final finish line in Cádiar. During this day, a multitude of elite athletes belonging to 20 different teams will pass through Granada towns such as Lanjarón, Órgiva, Pampaneira, Busquístar, Trevélez, Válor and Ugíjar, among others.

Regarding the economic impact in the province, a tourism improvement of 60 percent is expected, thus promoting the development and promotion of tourism, with at least 6,000 overnight stays in the municipalities that are part of the route, and more than 300 jobs created. directly or indirectly, which will translate into six million euros generated as a result of holding this event in the province of Granada.

This edition of the Vuelta a Andalucía-Ruta del Sol promises wide dissemination through RTVE, Eurosport and Canal Sur Andalucía, whose broadcasts will reach around 180 countries. A similar follow-up to the 2023 edition is expected, which had more than 13,957,000 spectators, while at the regional level it reached 4,928,000. Regarding social networks, the figure amounts to more than 40,000 followers, thus consolidating its presence and reach in different media.

The Vuelta a Andalucía-Ruta del Sol promotes elite cycling, while consolidating Granada as a leading sports destination. This new edition not only promotes sports, but also projects the image of the province at the national and international levels.
