Enhanced Cooperation Between Russia and Cuba

Russia and Cuba have once again reaffirmed their strong ties of brotherhood and cooperation during a joint press conference held by the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, and his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. The meeting addressed various aspects of the bilateral strategic partnership between the two countries, including political, commercial, economic, scientific, technical, cultural, and humanitarian fields.

One of the key points emphasized by Lavrov was the need to prevent the resurgence of Nazism on the planet, attributing the threat to the policies of the United States and its European allies. He also reiterated Russia’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to Cuba, particularly in light of the negative impact of the US embargo.

In addition, Russia demanded the exclusion of Cuba from the United States’ list of State sponsors of terrorism, calling it an anomaly and criticizing the US for maintaining its hegemony through “shameless terror”. Both Lavrov and Rodríguez highlighted the importance of working together to establish a just polycentric world order based on international law principles.

Rodríguez expressed gratitude for Russia’s support in lifting the US blockade on Cuba and for advocating for its exclusion from the terrorism sponsors list. He condemned the aggressive stance of the US and NATO, including unilateral sanctions against Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry described Cuba as a long-standing friend and strategic partner in the Latin American region, with regular political dialogues between the two countries. The agenda between Cuban and Russian representatives includes strengthening commercial and economic ties, increasing trade diversity, supporting investment projects, and collaborating in energy, metallurgy, transport infrastructure, space exploration, agriculture, and biopharmaceuticals.

The meeting between Russia and Cuba signifies the excellent state of bilateral relations and historical foundations that prioritize cooperation and mutual support. Both countries remain committed to working together to address common challenges and advance shared interests on the global stage.
